Michael Lucas is the epitome of the American Dream. Born and raised by his Jewish family in Moscow, Russia, he came to the U.S. in 1997 with $200 in his pocket and went on to become one of the most prominent figures in New York's downtown scene and president and CEO of a gay porn empire. In 1998 he founded his company Lucas Entertainment out of his West Village studio apartment. Now, a decade later, Lucas Entertainment and its sister company Lucas Distribution share joint luxury offices which occupy a 5,000 square foot space in the heart of midtown Manhattan. Lucas Entertainment is recognized as a leader in the gay adult industry with unprecedented achievement in cinematography, production quality, fashion and style. With the 2005 success of "Michael Lucas' Dangerous Liaisons"--which won the Best Picture GAYVN--Lucas and his company infiltrated the mainstream, with help from non-nude celebrity cameos from RuPaul, Michael Musto, Lady Bunny, Amanda Lepore, Graham Norton, Bruce Villanch, and Boy George. In 2007 Lucas Entertainment won a record 14 GAYVN awards for its epic feature "Michael Lucas' La Dolce Vita," including the coveted Best Picture and Best Director awards. An outspoken figure in the porn industry and the gay community at large, Lucas has spurred public debate over topics ranging from Islamic fundamentalism to bareback sex. He is frequently invited to universities such as Yale, NYU, and Rutgers to discuss his opinions. In 2004, Lucas' campaign against crystal meth and as a proponent of safe sex was documented by a feature in The Advocate with an interview by Harvey Fierstein. Lucas' weblog, www.LucasBlog.com, garners widespread attention with it's inside look at Lucas' unusual life, and his weekly column for the New York Blade has sparked countless blog and public discussions. As the most mainstreamed gay adult actor in history, Lucas has been featured on The Howard Stern Show, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, The Ricki Lake Show, HBO, VH1, MSNBC, and LOGO, and in HBO's documentary and book "Thinking XXX," The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, New York Magazine, GQ, The Village Voice, V Magazine, Out, The Advocate, Genre, Paper, Butt, Blue, Attitude, New York Post, NY Daily News. On November 12, 2004, Lucas was sworn in as an American citizen. |
