"The Intern" Blogger CONTEST + Updates
Tomorrow morning I am off to Italy for a quick photo shoot and will be back in the office next Wednesday. But before I go, it's time for some updates:
1) We're working full speed ahead getting ready to film "The Intern," starring Ben Andrews, and I'm excited to say we just launched a CONTEST to find an Official Intern Blogger who will report directly from the set of the film in May. Check out TheInternXXX.com for all the details. That's the film's logo on the right.
2) My latest weekly column appeared in the New York Blade today. It's called "Anderson Cooper Should Be Outed"... and you can probably guess what it's about. Check it out and let me know what you think. I got a lot of great responses for my first column in the New York Blade. One of them was published on Fleshbot here, which I was pleasantly surprised to see.
3) From that same Fleshbot article I discovered a new controversy surrounding my use of model Jason Tiya. I was the first to top Jason on camera, and the clip is available on my website. Apparently someone convinced the readers of the ATKOL forums that I didn't release the video on DVD due to "Jason making heavy use of poppers...". Well, I can tell you one thing about poppers, and that's how to avoid them. As you are all aware, I never allow poppers or any type of drugs on the sets of my films. Some people may think that in order to enjoy getting fucked by me you have to be incredibly high, but that is just not always the case :-)
4) Adam Gay Video XXX Showcase gave "Michael Lucas' La Dolce Vita" a huge 32-page spread in their new issue. It looks great! Big thanks to J.C. Adams for that.
5) I'm off to Hungary once again in June (everything I film there comes out beautifully), and this time I'm bringing Lucas exclusive model Jonathan Vargas. Jonathan has been with me for a year now and recently signed on to continue as a Lucas exclusive, which I am very excited about. He is adorable and an enthusiastic, incredible performer. :-)

7) In distribution news, we have begun to distribute for—brace yourself—Buck Angel, beginning with his "Buckback Mountain," which is available to order now at my company store here. Buck dropped by my office a couple of weeks ago with an HBO documentary crew to tell me about his life, and it was actually very educational for me. I wasn't aware that there is an entire community of guys like Buck... and guys who like guys like Buck. I thought I knew everything there was to know about male sexuality, but I guess not. I am a changed man :-)
8) Last, but certainly not least, I spoke with someone from the beloved Gay Chicago magazine about their Grabby Awards. This person—who wishes to remain anonymous—gave me the most straightforward and logical explanation for why "Michael Lucas' La Dolce Vita" was excluded from the nominations: apparently the organizers of the Grabby's made this business decision based on the fact that lots of studios were really pissed that after paying for expensive seats in the Castro Theatre, flying their models in, etc., my company swept all the big awards. I guess they wanted to avoid a repeat of the GAYVNs this time around and sell their tables at the show. I'm not surprised.

My very first column...

When Gays Don’t AttackBy MICHAEL LUCAS
Friday, April 20, 2007Radio personality Don Imus said some very nasty things about black women. A groundswell of protests started, and Imus and his network went on the usual round of mea culpas. Nothing helped. African-American leadership wouldn’t play ball and, finally, Imus got fired.
This, many people say, is a sign that the days when straight white man can say whatever crosses their mind is over. That America is on an unstoppable move toward multiculturalism. That respect for minorities is becoming increasingly non-negotiable. But is all this really so? As far as our community is concerned, I have serious doubts.
After all, just a week before Imus went after the Rutgers University women’s basketball team, his producer went after “that sissy Sanjaya” (the flamboyant American Idol contestant) and wished he would become “the victim of a vicious hate crime.” Objectively, incitement to murder is quite a bit more serious than calling somebody a “ho.” It should have been a stab through the heart for those of us who still remember the image of Matthew Shepard crucified on a fence outside Laramie, Wyo. Yet what was the reaction of our community, and of its leaders, at the blatant incitement of violence against us via Sanjaya? Silence.
REMEMBER WHEN ISAIAH Washington called his co-star a “faggot”? There were protests from the grassroots, all right. But then our “leadership” stepped in—in this case, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), an watchdog organization that is supposed to guard against misrepresentations of our community in the media—and that “leadership” tried to make everything better by ushering Isaiah conveniently into “rehab,” which has lately become the safe haven for bigots.
Maybe Ann Coulter had a point when she said, addressing the Conservative Political Action Conference: “I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate, John Edwards, but it turns out you have to go into rehab when you use the word ‘faggot,’ so I’m—so, kind of at an impasse, can’t really talk about Edwards.”
Would Coulter have called Edwards a “faggot” during a televised event if Washington, instead of going to “rehab,” had been fired? True, GLAAD wagged its finger again and told NBC it “has a responsibility to consider [emphasis mine] whether it wants to continue offering a platform to someone who repeatedly engages in on-air expressions of bigotry.” Is that really all our leadership can come up with when our community is insulted?
Imagine if a prominent person made an anti-black remark in front of a televised political conference. What would you think if you heard Al Sharpton say that the network had a responsibility to “consider” taking the person off the air? You would think Sharpton had suddenly turned into a wimp, and you would be right!
And that’s precisely why our community can still be kicked around with impunity: Because we, and our leadership, have a cowardly strategy for defending ourselves. We are a sophisticated community. We understand irony. So when others protest, we wink and we smile. And, even worse, we trade backbone for access. GLAAD’s functionaries love to be invited to Hollywood to “consult” on productions. Why jeopardize the insider-status with principled reactions?
I DON’T MEAN TO RANT only on GLAAD. Our community’s leadership, at least the moneyed part of it, set the tone under the Clinton administration when it traded a few “seats at the table” for tacit support for some of the most damaging legislation to our community that Congress ever passed—the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.
And that tradition continues. Remember Sen. Hillary Clinton’s outrage when Peter Pace, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the U.S. senior military officer, said he thought that homosexuality was “immoral”? No? Exactly, because there was none. And yet she is still raking it in on the gay fundraising circuit. Other communities make political contributions to their political candidates in turn for concrete support. We make political contributions for the pleasure of joining the Clintons for tea. No wonder we are not taken seriously.
I call on all of you to begin taking yourselves more seriously. If somebody insults our community, they ultimately insult you. And you must speak up—even if you think you’re beyond it because you’re affluent or comfortable, or because you work, like I do, in a decidedly gay-friendly job. Stop compromising your principles to buy “their” respect. Respect can’t be bought; it has to be earned. And it is time our community made a start on that.

Auditions 17: David & Rich
Eating ass is a wonderful thing. Two of the guys I found in Auditions 17 ate each other's asses very well.

Auditions 17: Tony & Evan Rochelle
I wanted floods of urine for Auditions 17, and I wanted guys who would have no problem drinking it up. I'm happy to say I got both.

Auditions 17: George & Roberto Gruber
You didn't expect me to go to Hungary and NOT film any Auditions there, did you?
Well I did, and the result is Auditions 17, which is available now and, I must say, very hot.
It's very twink-heavy and filled to the brim with watersports and cum-eating. The perfect example is the scene between newcomers George (below left) and Roberto Gruber (below right).

Some quick updates for the weekend
1) I just got back from Budapest where I shot two new movies, "Cruising Budapest 2: Ben Andrews" and "Cruising Budapest 3: Lucio Maverick." The cast for both movies includes the likes of Ben Andrews, Lucio Maverick, Ted Colunga, Steve Hunt, German hunk Tim Kruger (whose name you will soon memorize with his 11 inch cock), and Julian Veneziano, so it's a really international cast. We will update you more in the coming weeks, but the definite highlight was Lucio Maverick bottoming for the first time. I fucked him in about 4 different positions. We had two free days after shooting and I had a great time hanging out with Ben and Tim Kruger, strolling around Budapest which is a gorgeous city. The weather was fantastic as well with temperatures in the low 70's and lots of sunshine. Hungary is a really hung nation, which I know because Ben dragged me to a bathhouse in Budapest where we had the best view sitting in the jacuzzi and watching guys come in and out. Hungarian guys have got to have the biggest dicks of any white men (sorry for being politically incorrect).

2) As I've written about all week on this blog, the first Hungarian movie that I directed a month ago, "Cruising Budapest 1: Michael Lucas," has just been released. I'm really proud of this production. Many of you might recognize many of the guys from Eastern European productions, but I think I was able to get much hotter scenes and better sex with amazing energy and kink.
3) Back here in New York, I will soon be writing a weekly column for local publications HX and the New York Blade, who have read my blog and approached me to write for them. I am really looking forward to it.
