Isaiah and Mel
This is just incredibly annoying to me. I love America to death, but this kind of stuff really gets on my nerves. At first Jews made Mel Gibson apologize for his anti-Semitic remarks, now GLAAD wants "to work" with Isaiah Washington.
I'm sorry, but this guy is as homophobic as Mel Gibson is anti-Semitic, and I don't think the gay community needs his stupid, insincere apologies written by some of his paid publicists. Instead of being such sissies, those assholes at GLAAD should insist on making this guy lose his job. I know it's a more difficult task, but perfectly possible. Or do they really think that the gay community needs to see him at the Gay Pride Parade apologizing from a float, or going on some tacky gay channel like LOGO? Or maybe gay people are as cheesy as GLAAD is and I just don't understand anything about the gay community? Maybe it's just me who doesn't need Mel Gibson's or Isaiah Washington's apologies, maybe I'm the only one who wants to see them unemployed?

Somethings wrong here. Instead of Washington being fired from Grey's Anatomy, rumor has it that TR Knight is quitting the show over the gay slur.

It's possible it's better that these bigots get left in the public eye after they are repudiated for their bigotry.
Everybody knows the stories of what they did and what happened to them because of it, and if they stay in the public eye, they remain eternal symbols of bigotry having been repudiated. They therefore are a constant reminder to others that bigotry is not acceptable in our society.
If they were hounded out of all work opportunities, their stories would rapidly fade from active memory, and people would not have such frequent reminders that our society, in its aggregate, does not tolerate bigotry.

At least faggot has become the new "F word". As to Mel & Isaiah: may their penises stop functioning in any sexual situation.
No need for Isaiah to loose his job. He's already lost face.
How about a shout out to his fellow cast mate Katherine Haigl for taking a very loud stand?
Dear Michael anything or situation that keeps opening up the dialog on respect for gay citizens of this country is a good thing.
As to Mel; he's now become a pariah yet still raking in cash. Cash talks. Stop the cash flow and he becomes a drunken mess with a huge ass family to support. Maybe one of his children is gay. That might make his head pop. Honestly I think he has a crucifixion complex.

I agree with you. I'm suprised that Michael Richards name has not surfaced as a side-bar.
What Washington did was just as bad.
I give Michael Richards this: he did not deny what he said. He did not deny what he said was horribly wrong. He does not try to pawn it off as a misunderstanding. He was suppose to meet with the people he verbally assaulted to apologise. He seemed genuinely distressed at his actions.
Across town: Isaiah Washington, having called T.R. Knight a faggot to his face, on set, in front of the entire cast, is pulling a Bush Administration by denying the assault never happened.
I wonder how Washington feels about the Richards incident?
BTW: What did happen with Michael Richards? Did he apologise in person for what he did? Did his 'victims' apologise for what they did? Was there a big group hug?? That story just went away.

No you are not the only one. It's been reported that T.R. Knight is so pissed, he may leave the "Grey's Anatomy" show because of the way the situation was handled by both the network and the production company. I hope he stands by that decision. If it were the other way around and TR had made a derogatory remark about Washington, he'd have been outa there before you could say "ABC."

No Micheal, you're not the only one. My sentiments exactly. They said what they said. No counseling or apologies will change it or their mind.

OK here is what I don't understand: You see I used to work at Disneyland, and if this situation had happened at Disneyland, Isaiah would have been fired the FIRST time that he said "faggot," let alone the second. So why is it that ABC (which is also owned by the Walt Disney Company) is allowing him to keep his job? Company policy is company policy, and if Isaiah ISN'T fired, then Disney is opening themselves up to a HUGE class-action lawsuit from people who were fired for using such language, on the grounds of descrimination (i.e., "Why wasn't HE fired, but I was??") If that's the case, then it's Disney's own fault for not having enough of a fucking backbone to stand up to this guy. They will pay big time.

if they are indeed complete and utter bigots (which i believe they are) then going through all these measures to make up for things they said must be incredibly embarassing and as unsympathetic as i am i find it absolutely hilarious! i only wish that more narrowminded arrogant bigots met the same fate as these two have (more so Washington than Gibson because in my opinion Gibson got off lightly).

Several sites are reporting that Washington is back on the set of "Grey's" today. Wonder what Katie Heigl has to say about THAT.

I still remember how GLAAD "worked" with Mel Gibson back when he had his fits of spouting homophobic Catholic rhetoric about a decade ago. I guess it took in a very warped sense, since he turned his bile towards Jews most recently.
Still pretty damned lame in my view. I wish GLAAD would just shrivel up and blow away in its entirety.

Totally agree with you Michael!
