Isaiah and Mel
This is just incredibly annoying to me. I love America to death, but this kind of stuff really gets on my nerves. At first Jews made Mel Gibson apologize for his anti-Semitic remarks, now GLAAD wants "to work" with Isaiah Washington.
I'm sorry, but this guy is as homophobic as Mel Gibson is anti-Semitic, and I don't think the gay community needs his stupid, insincere apologies written by some of his paid publicists. Instead of being such sissies, those assholes at GLAAD should insist on making this guy lose his job. I know it's a more difficult task, but perfectly possible. Or do they really think that the gay community needs to see him at the Gay Pride Parade apologizing from a float, or going on some tacky gay channel like LOGO? Or maybe gay people are as cheesy as GLAAD is and I just don't understand anything about the gay community? Maybe it's just me who doesn't need Mel Gibson's or Isaiah Washington's apologies, maybe I'm the only one who wants to see them unemployed?

They're at it again.
As my dear readers you know about the love I have for the sons of Allah, or the "superior" nation as Muslims like to refer to themselves. Well, in light of the latest Holocaust denial conference which was held in Iran, here is a priceless video clip that I discovered on YouTube. It's a few minutes long, but watch it until the end so you understand why the Holocaust denial conference is so important for those medieval-thinking, ignorant asses.

My civil duty...
My Hungarian trip has been postponed for two weeks because the cameraman in in our host country broke his wrist on the day of my departure. Apparently, the thought of filming me with my clothes off had him beating his meat too hard –and voila! CRACK.
Therefore, I decided to tackle something that I knew I would hate, even though I've never done it--Jury Duty. The summons ticket was ominously laying around my office for several weeks and getting on my nerves; so I decided now is the best time to get it over with. Early yesterday morning, I traveled downtown but wished I would've arrived late -as all we did for the first 2 hours was wait for other people to arrive. While waiting, we watched the most ridiculous movie about the importance of jury duty. Hilariously, it included History Channel-like episodes of the barbaric traditions of a 1,000 years ago. There was one scene of men being tied up and thrown into water and if the man survived, he was innocent. Was it fair? Well, Diane Sawyer popped on screen and asked that very question. I of course, emphatically responded, “YES” as everyone else mumbled, “No.”
FINALLY the administrative set took about 60 people including myself into the courtroom for jury selection. The pending case was criminal, charging a very good looking ‘kid’ for selling 100 tabs of ecstasy to an undercover cop. The judge asked if anyone had a problem with the details of the case and some smart people raised their hand and made up some bull about why they could not be selected. I heard everything from believing drugs should be legal to the fact that a relative died of an overdose. However, I didn't have to make up any lame excuse about narcotics because when the judge asked about my profession, I proudly proclaimed, “I am a gay porn star.”
Of course, I was not chosen. Something that did strike me as unusual was that half of the jurors had either a criminal record or had been a victim of a crime. Anyway, today I have to go back… Wish me luck so I don’t have to serve. This is the only situation in which I want my porn star status held against me. The only time.

Your Support and GAYVN Nominations

Thank you to everyone who commented on the Queerty post. I don't think their website has ever received so much traffic :), especially from so many passionate commentators. Yes we all understand that Andrew Belonsky is anti-Semitic. I know it, you know it, he knows it. A funny thing that I found out is that some of the people that work with him, tried to defend him by making the point that he comes from a Jewish family. Don't we all know that some of the biggest homophobes, anti-Semites, and racists are Gay, Jewish, and Black respectively. Remember Bob Novak, who was fired from the nasty CNN show Crossfire. He is from a Jewish background and was baptized and became a conservative Republican and anti-Israel. Marcel Proust, who is still one of my favorite writers, was homophobic and anti-Semitic, but is Jewish and gay. The list is endless.
But enough of that garbage.
The nominations for GayVN's (the gay porn version of the Oscars) were recently released and
Michael Lucas' La Dolce Vita is the most nominated movie of the year with 14 nominations!

Israel and Queerty: Letters.
Without much to say, here is the correspondence between me and the editor of Queerty, Andrew Belonsky. Queerty is a popular gay blog and it comes to me often as a surprise that gay people who have suffered oppression for centuries all over the world are so intolerant to the suffering of the state of Israel. Israel is treated today as a collective Jew, the hate towards Israel and siding with the anti-semitic muslim world is just another example of modern anti-semitism.

Holy Israeli One-Liner Scandal, Fag Man!
Dear Andrew,
First, thank you for mentioning the BUTT article. As I am sure you know, I always appreciate publicity, whether it's positive or negative. But there is one particular thing which got me quite upset and even worried. As you can imagine, I take issue with Queerty's stance on Israel. I have been to Israel many times and I have also been to different muslim countries many times and am well traveled.
Let me tell you that within the whole middle east, the only country where Queerty would be possible is in Israel. If you decided to publish your blog in any other country in the middle east, you would be dragged into the main square, publicly beaten, and then your arms would be cut off, followed by your legs, and then you would be left for dead under the sun. And you would hear thousands of people chanting "Allah Akbar!"
Or maybe it wouldn't be all that dramatic. Maybe they would just take a knife to your head and cut it off. It takes no longer than 2 minutes. Just google "beheading videos". Unfortunately, you will see hundreds of video clips too gruesome for American tv.
Now, by saying that the world is tired of Israel using its weapons, are you suggesting that Israel should not use them? Do you know that that would cause a massacre of every Israeli citizen? Do you understand that this is not some imagined fear? This is the state agenda of countries like Iran and Palestine. Do you know that Islam, which Bush called a "peaceful religion", is preaching war on all infidels, advocates eye for eye and tooth for tooth, beating and killing women for hundreds of "reasons", killing gays, killing secular muslims,
Look- I can go on and on telling you how dangerous it is to side with the muslims and blame Israel for all the problems in the middle east- but it is particularly disturbing to me that you, an influential member of the media, do not see the reality of the situation in Israel and in today's world.
Best regards,
Michael Lucas
Hi Michael, darling. Thanks for the note. Yes, I'm well aware of the dangers facing Israel. I'm also well aware of the danger Israel poses for its neighbors - just look at Lebanon. Sure, Israel may be more liberal with regard to gay people, but this issue's far larger than any LGBT crisis. Do I want to see the destruction of Israel? No. Do I want to see them beat up on Palestine? No. Do I want to see either side using their weapons? No. I think everyone's tired of Israel using its weapons - whether they feel they're justified or not. You can't possibly say you'd like to see this war go on until the end of time, can you? Perhaps my statement was a bit one-sided, but it's hardly as deep as all that.
I'll be posting a reply later this afternoon.
I hope you're well.AB
Andrew,
I appreciate you posting my response tonight, but again, what worries me is that you do not understand the realities of today's world. How can you say that Israel poses a threat to its neighbors? I really think you should examine the history of the region because if you did you would realize that occupied territories were occupied during the 6 days war, when all of Israel's neighbors decided to wipe it off the map. Israel not only defended itself, but occupied parts of their territories to keep Israel safe and not have unsecured borders with enemies so close by. Furthermore, the vast majority of this territory has been returned. As for Lebanon, you should be aware that the Iranian-sponsored Hezbollah has been firing rockets into Israel for the past two years, what do you think the US would do if Mexico fired rockets across the US-Mexico border? There would be no Mexico.
Now I am not talking just about LGBT issues, but what do you mean Israel "may be" more liberal with regard to gay people? It's absolutely liberal and even more liberal in aspects such as gays serving in the army than it is here in the US, there is no "Don't Ask Don't Tell." Israel can be compared only to New York in terms of acceptance of LGBT people.
And I am not talking only about LGBT rights in the Muslim countries, I am talking about all forms of civil rights (women's rights, minority rights, freedom of religion and speech) granted to the citizens of Israel, they don't exist at all in Muslim countries. I am not talking about the lack of freedom like in Cuba, China, or Russia, I am speaking of the medieval cruelty with which they treat the people of their nations. I am speaking of stonings, beheadings, polygamy, etc.
I personally believe that the world is large enough for everyone to live the way they want and if women in Arab countries are stupid enough to cover their faces with medieval rugs and share their smelly, bearded husbands in burkas with other wives, be beaten, treated like dogs, etc., then let it be. But I don't want Muslim countries to try to impose their practices on the rest of the world and this is exactly what is happening today, especially in Europe.
Best regards,
Michael Lucas

La Dolce Musto

I had an amazing time at Michael Musto's party on Tuesday night. It was attended by my favorite people, the downtown crowd. An interesting mix from Joan Rivers to Rosie Perez made for a fun evening. Everyone knew one another and it was very cool. I also enjoyed performances by Bridget Everett and Julie Atlas Muz. Michael Musto was celebrating the release of his book La Dolce Musto which compiles some of his most hilarious columns from the Village Voice over the past 20 years. Topics range from commentary on contemporary political issues to celebrity gossip and pop culture.
Michael always does a great job of mentioning me in his column while also poking fun at me, which you know I enjoy very much if you know me at all. There were tons of paparazzi flashing everywhere, especially when Ivana Trump showed up on the scene looking like an old politburo woman dressed for nothing less than a celebration of a Russian revolution day. You can catch all of those pics all over the blogs and internet I'm sure ...

Peep and Sweep
I was just catching up on some newspapers and this article caught my attention:
Peep and Sweep Furor in the NY Post.
This was about the lawsuit of the workers against Equinox gyms in NY. Although I personally never go to the gym saunas as I have a perfectly good shower in my apartment and I'm just not interested in engaging in sexual activities at the gym, this action taken by the the gym's employees strikes me as extremely homophobic and shady.
NYC a city with a large gay population, and when gay men are naked together, there really is no way to avoid a few sexual encounters from occurring. Trust me, if there were heterosexual men who found themselves in a sauna with some willing females, it would turn into one big orgy.
The most ridiculous part of the lawsuit is the fact that they claim to be concerned with "potential health issues." While I understand that the cleaning staff might not have the highest of IQs, their lawyers probably had to explain to them that society has known since the 80s that you can't contract HIV or any other virus by picking up a towel, cumstained or not. Sure, maybe it's icky, but hazardous to their health? That's just a blatently homophobic paranoia.

We're melting.
First I would like to thank everyone who offered me their condolences and kind words. I truly appreciate your consideration. I am back in the office now and trying to be productive.
Don't you think the weather this weekend was particularly strange, even alarming? I do not recall 72 degree highs in January in the 10 years since I moved here. What I do remember very well, though, is that when I was growing up in Moscow in winter it would be -10 degrees Fahrenheit and we couldn't drive to our country house because the roads would be covered with snow. By the time I was 16, the temperatures seemed to have changed, it would be raining on New Years and summers became unbearably hot. Russia and Europe now have high death tolls every summer because so many people do not have air conditioners and die of heat exposure in their own apartments. It was a little weird to see people being so excited and happy about the weather which was just signaling us that the planet is in trouble as there are no seasons any longer. Today's winters look like springs and I am really not looking forward to another boiling summer in New York.
As I was riding in a cab on Saturday evening wearing just a t-shirt and shorts, I heared a radio host saying he hoped the warm weather would continue as long as possible. I know that there a lot of morons working at radio stations, but still - no one should be excited about wearing t-shirts in the beginning of January! I also remember a few years ago a blackout which lasted 35/40 hours, and how helpless the City was without air conditioners, lights, and food, all because of the strain we have put on our energy grid to cope with a warming climate. I remember standing 5 hours in the line to the Greek bistro to get some disgusting looking gyro, as my whole family was stuck in my apartment in Chelsea. There were lines at the corner stores to get candles and water, and everyday necessities that we take for granted. As people get excited about the warm weather in January, just think about the chance that the next blackout could last a week and people in hospitals and the elderly will suffer from it. When the warm weather arrives when it is supposed to this summer and we experience our hottest summer ever, there will be nothing to get excited about.
Sorry to sound like Al Gore here, but there's just something seriously wrong about the fact that I am not freezing my ass off right now.

My Grandfather

I ended my vacation early and came back to New York because my Grandfather Victor died the morning of Dec 31st, after fighting cancer for 8 years. He was 85 years old. It is a very difficult time for my family, me and especially my grandmother, as my grandparents were married for sixty years. I was very close to my grandfather throughout my life. My parents, my grandparents and I lived together until I was eight when my parents and I moved to an apartment close by.
But we spent three months every summer together in our country house outside of Moscow. Even though my grandfather was an older man when I came out, he was very accepting and supportive, which was a wonderful and rare thing considering the times and the country we lived in.
When I came to the US and got my green card, my grandparents were the first to join me as they did not want to live separately on a different continent. Or, as my grandfather said, "to see each other only once or twice a year is not enough". They left everything for me and came to New York in the year 2000 and settled in Brooklyn. My parents and my brother came a year later.
My grandfather studied English every day and became a US citizen just nine months ago. All that while undergoing chemotherapy and radiation. Even though during his time in America he was a very sick man, he fell in love with New York and enjoyed all the great culture New York has to offer --- from Carnegie Hall to the Metropolitan Opera to museum tours.
He was a wonderful man who loved life and the most amazing grandfather one could have. I spent tonight, as I got back from Mexico, with my parents and my grandmother. It's a very strange feeling that my grandfather is not with us any longer and I also keep thinking that I did not do enough to pay him back for all the love he gave me. There is a poem that was written by a German writer, Ferdinand Freilgrath, called "Love as Long as You Can".
Oh love, as long as day may dawn,
The hour will come,
You will stand beside a grave , and mourn
Whoever gives his heart to you
Oh, show him all the love you own,
And fill his waking hours with joy,
And never make him feel alone.
And watch your tongue as best you can -
A wicked word is quickly spoken.
"Oh, god, I didn't mean it so!"
The other goes away, Heart-broken,
Then you kneel down beside the grave
And say: 'Look at the woman who
Is weeping here to see you go!
Forgive me, please, for hurting you!
Oh, god, I didn't mean it so!'
But he can't see and he can't hear you,
He can't be welcomed back, somehow.
The mouth that kissed you oft before
Can't say that all's forgiven now...
He did forgive you, long ago,
But many hot tears fell, my friend.
About you and your bitter word...
Oh, he's at rest, he's reached the end!
It might be a very poor translation but I like this poem very much as it holds so true, as one always says: "I meant no harm."
Be gentle to those you love as everything comes to an end.
Michael Lucas
