This is a part of the narrative of the Middle East that is key, yet has been largely swallowed into a black hole.

The Grand Mufti al-Husseini wanted to extend the "final solution" to the 1 million Jews living throughout the Middle East in the WWII era. Hitler approved his plans. Had the Allies not won, those 1 million Middle Eastern Jews would likely have been slaughtered.

During 1,400 years of Arab and Turkish domination throughout the Mid East, Jewish people never had equal rights and often were subject to massacres at the hands of Muslims.

All THAT, is what makes of Israel's existence a human rights imperative. Not events in Europe, but rather 1,400 years of Muslim against Jew abuse, culminating in a Muslim-and-Nazi plan to kill all the Jews in the Middle East.

Israel's Declaration of Independence offered 100% equality to the Arabs living in the country. (Note: This week, an Arab was made a Minister in the Israeli government). But the Arabs, INCLUDING the Arabs within Israel, made war against the Jews the moment modern Israel was declared a country.

And guess what? One of the instigators of the 1948 Arab war against Israel was the Grand Mufti al-Husseini, the same man who had met with Hitler to spread, eventually, the "final solution" to the Mid East Jews.

Yasser Arafat was a nephew of al-Husseini and frequently referred to him as "our hero."

I find it disgusting. I am an arab and a muslim, i have jewish friends and i have had jewish partners in the past, we dont have a problem against the jews, Israeli politics is another matter. Get your facts straight...maybe a copy of Chomsky will do you good.

Rio's comment above could make one think the person is an ignorant ass.

Firstly, Michael said nothing about Arabs here. He said something about "sons of Allah."

Being Muslim has nothing to do with one's race. It is a philosophy that one can choose to follow, or not. There are black, Arab and even Chinese Muslims. To criticize Islam and its followers, however, has about it nothing of racism.

Secondly, is "Rio" aware of the things the Grand Mufti al-Husseini did in his life? That was the subject of this post. Yet Rio, instead of addressing it, tells Michael to "get your facts straight."

It's "Rio" who has to get his facts straight. And he should start by actually learning about the Grand Mufti al-Husseini. After that, he can go on to figuring out why "sons of Allah" does not refer to any particular race. Then he can explain why he doesn't think that the sponsors and attendees of Ahmadinejad's Holocaust conference aren't ignorant asses.
