As long as you're talking about a scene with a person from the Middle East, I want to call readers' attention to the desperate plight of gay people among the Palestinians.

Gay Palestinians are routinely murdered by other Palestinians and the society at large considers that "dishonor" is being removed from it.

There is absolutely no place allowed for a known or presumed gay person in Palestinian society. They are told by their own families that they must either leave the territories or die.

When non-Muslim media happens upon a mob of Palestinians murdering a gay person in the streets, what the Palestinians say and what the media report is that the victims were murdered for "collaborating with Israel."

It also happens that a known or presumed gay Palestinian is led before Palestinian leaders and told he can remove the dishonor he brought to his family by carrying out a suicide attack against Israelis.

Gay Palestinians often seek asylum in Israel. Some receive asylum, others do not. Those who do not are permitted to stay in the country for humanitarian reasons but are not given working papers and so their situation is desperate.

With all of the accusations and counter-accusations that go on in the region, Palestinian gays and the violations of their basic human right to life is being COMPLETELY ignored by the international community.

WHEN DID YOU EVER HEAR A UN OFFICIAL MAKE ONE PEEP ABOUT THIS SUBJECT?

The time to be outraged is NOW. The time to make your voices heard on this subject is NOW. The time to send letters and e-mails to your elected officials, demanding they speak up for the human rights of Palestinian gays is NOW.
