he will go on and on saying homosexuality is a sin. he will. he'll never change his mind because he's an old old catholic man. i'm catholic and surround by them all fucking day. there is no changing their minds! old catholics are the most stubborn buggers in the world, even if they know they're wrong they don't care! they only let women step on the alter a few years ago! Rome wasn't built in a day.

I love my faith, it makes me so happy and i feel so peaceful all the time! but i dislike my church and its silly rules. i'm saying this because i want to make a point that my response has nothing to do with you badmouthing the leader of my church.

my point is, that no matter who you are talking about you really should try and be respectful. this post was completely disrespectful (and some other posts) and i have to say that it saddens me that you can behave like that. i would have thought someone as educated, intelligent and openminded as yourself would be able to make a more informed statement.

That's plain disrespectful. I don't personally feel the pope deserves any praise, but there is no call for this kind of question and even less, a call for it's answer. No religous leader should be portrayed in this light by anyone, whether you're a member of the faith or not. Regardless of their views, any faction of God (whichever you choose) is still a faction of a God, and should be respected as such.

What respect does a contemporary religious leader deserve if he insists on campaigning against our having full legal equality?

Faith by definition is belief in something that can not be proven as true.

What basis is the belief in a metaphysical abstraction for arguing that gays should be denied legal equality?

It's precisely because religious intolerance is treated as acceptable because it is part of a religion that religious enemies are able to get as far as they do in repressing gays.

Secular leaders should be telling these religious bigots that their religious bigotry has no place in contemporary society and will not be tolerated.

Irrational bigotry is irrational bigotry and anybody who perpetuates it under any guise, even a religious guise, does not deserve respect.

There are forums where these ideas can be presented in all due seriousness. But this is LucasBlog, where even the pope can take ben-wa balls as punishment for his hateful, irrational attitude towards gays and his obnoxious interference where progress in gay rights is being made. Although religious beliefs and religious leaders might deserve some respect, the Pope, when he approaches the people of Spain to rescind rights granted by the STATE is acting as a politician and not a holy man.

I just don't get people who will defend a faith that despises them. First and foremost, he's still a religious leader and should be respect as one, whether you agree with him or not. If you want to attack his views, then attack his views, don't slander him personally by perverted comments about the religion. However, I CLEARLY stated the pope doesn't deserve any praise, but then, one can't expect comprehtsion to be associated with reading on the lucas blog.

Second....intolerance and irrational bigotry does not warrant further intolerance and irrational bigorty. There is NO justification for referrencing the rocking motions of the Virgin Mary when plunger fucking the pope or a Jesus on the Cross dildo. Would you all be as self-righteous if I were to refer to the buring bush as a bad case of crabs as my way of expressing my discern for the Jewish faith's view on homosexuality? But then Michael wouldn't say that, would he?

A faith itself should not be disrespected for the actions of it's followers. A beleif in a God is not the beleif in the words spoken by those who also follow the faith. Attacking the pope on a personal and degrading level rather than confronting the views that bother you will not accomplish anything of value, but only serve to bring about more ill will.

So what have you done to encourage a positive change? I'm willing to bet that all of you Lucasbloggers who attacked those of us who were offended by this and called Michael on it have done NOTHING to reinforce the equality of the gay community. Simply stating that the church dispises us and bigotry reigns supreme does nothing to improve the situation. I understand this is Lucas Blog and most of what you say is satire and meant to be comical but some of us are Catholic, gay, and also love porn and masturbation but disagree with the Pope and church leaders and teaching on many social issues. However, we do believe in Jesus and love Him and we do not believe that Jesus is against us as the Church is, therefore I would like to say that it is highly offensive to those of us that are fans of your work and your site when you disrespect Jesus himself in your comments. What business does the man have trying to undo civil rights legislation in Spain? If anything, the Spanish should censure him for seeking to deny 10% of the population equality before the law.

Given the balderdash on which religion is based, there is no excuse for letting religious representatives dictate public policy. There isn't even any logical basis for engaging in a public policy debate with religious people. "Because God said so" is not an acceptable argument against giving gay people their rights. And it is not acceptable for anybody to cut a religious bigot slack because of that bigot's religion when the bigot is arguing against our civil rights.

It's not just that the pope doesn't deserve respect; it's that we have a moral obligation to denounce him for his anti-gay bigotry.
