Last night in the city...

Later that night, I hit the town with Bradford, Conor, and Matt.
First we went to Design Within Reach’s newest Manhattan showroom in flatiron district. Twas cute obviously. Catered by Danny Meyer’s union square hospitality group. From there we went to CraftBar for dinner. Fab. Then we went to The Slipper Room. Hklina brought Trannyshack, the legendary SF drag club, to NYC. Juanita More performed as did Heklina, Sherry Vine, and Ana Matronic from Scissor Sisters. The Scissor Sisters and Alan Cumming and Cyndi Lauper were all there. Check out the pics:

Early in the evening I also checked out my friends Jeff Eason, Michael Alago and Joe Oppedisano's show at the Center on 13th Street. I didn't get any pictures from that part of the night, but you should check out their work here:

Donald is right: it can be a fun gay life in NYC.

But unfortunately, just last night Kevin Aviance, wearing men's clothing, was attacked by adolescent gay-bashers shouting anti-gay insults in the East Village and is now in the hospital with his jaw wired shut.

Will people please take a moment to communicate with their elected officials about this attack, telling them it illustrates the need to eliminate anti-gay prejudice from American society?

It is hypocritical for elected officials to be talking about how we have to protect our security by fighting in Iraq when we are not secure on our own streets. Those parts of American society that don't actively promote anti-gay prejudice are not taking a resolute enough stand against those that do.

For what reason has Hillary Clinton not loudly demanded that George W. Bush state that anti-gay prejudice is backwards and irrational and should and will not be tolerated? The beating and subsequent hospitalization of Kevin Aviance should be a catalyst to our demanding of her that she do exactly that. And if she won't do it, then not a one of us should vote for her in November.

I am not going to keep quite about the vicious beating of Kevin Aviance by anti-gay hoodlums.

Here are the names of the four arrested. Note that 7 criminals are said to have participated in the attack.

Jarell Sears and Akino George, both 20; Gregory Archie, 18; and Gerard Johnson, 16.

These asshole's families should be getting interviewed and asked if they contributed to their sons' homophobia. The people in the populations of the schools they attended should be asked in TV interviews what they have done lately to eliminate anti-gay prejudice from their institutions. George W. Bush should be asked on TV what he has to say about violent attacks against gay people, and the role that anti-gay prejudice in society at large plays in those attacks.

I'm putting it this way; if there were regular vicious physical attacks against Christian clergymen for the mere fact of their being Christian clergymen, would society be brushing the attacks under the rug, the way it does with anti-gay bashings?
