Auditions and Royalty, all in a day ...

Ok guys, It's been a crazy shitstorm lately, and I don't mean like in my movies. We've been filming a lot and getting many many incredibly hot new exclusives and models- many with fascinating stories. Each new guy wows me with his unique life perspective, it's impossible to ignore the wide variety of men who want to be in my films.

In a matter of days, Auditions 7, Barcelona will hit stores and people will get to see exactly why Milan is such an incredible sex performer. They'll also see the incredibly sexy Wilfried Knight in his first movie since Dangerous Liaisons! Edu and Manu are back among so many others. You can pre-order that movie by clicking here.

And Auditions 8: Scandalous will hit stores after I get back from my trip to LA next week on March 15. The GAYVN awards are March 9, so I have a lot of friends to see and business to get done while I'm out on the west coast.
I saw Auditions 8 for the first time today. It's so much more than John Paulus' first time on camera- which is exciting enough on its own (I'm sure faithful readers know what I mean!). It's also got a foursome, a threesome, a solo scene, a scene with John and Wilson Vasquez and more. I joined 3 new guys for the 4-some audition. And Kent Larson, with his Herculean body, takes on these two really hot latin guys: Riccardo and Danny Bitho. J. shows off his bottoming skills with latin fuckmachine, Riccardo. Jimmy's solo scene is really surprising. I rarely ever do them, but his amazing cock and hard body steal the show- especially considering that he's a 19 year old with a 10 inch uncut dick and muscular ass.

Ok guys, I'm off to be King of Mardi Gras at the Roxy tonight. I hope that the Hammer doesn't hurt me ... I have been warned. (tonight's event info)

Rutgers Workshop

I had so much fun at Rutgers this weekend. The students asked many great questions and were very enthusiastic. Sometimes it surprises me how many curiosities people have about my work and my world. But then again it's important to remember that perhaps there are some people out there not reading my blog. Crazy, right?

Michael Lucas at Rutgers University Sat Feb 25.

RutgersPoster.jpg

I will be speaking at 2:40pm in room 411.

SEX: DRIVES
Sex: a Determined Revisioning toward Inclusivity of Various Expressions of Sex(uality)

Most people are acculturated in an environment that speaks little to
nothing of sex. The very concept of sex has been used to shame people of all ages, genders, and sexual orientations throughout time, and to create a cultural meritocracy that overvalues a traditional (heterosexual, patriarchal) view of sex and devalues anything that “deviates” from that socially constructed norm.

This Saturday the Rutgers Queer Caucus and the Rutgers chapter of NOW are hosting a conference to explore sex in ways that the mainstream community fails to address positively.

This conference aims to destigmatize and demystify various forms of sex and sexuality to counteract a cultural silencing about sex and open up the concept of sex so that it is inclusive of more people and experiences. In order to widen our understanding of what it means to be a sexual person, we will focus on cultural practices and academic perceptions of people’s physical, emotional, and psychological sex drives.

We will offer free breakfast and lunch, as well as door prizes.

SEX: DRIVES
Saturday, February 25, 2006
9:30am – 4:30pm
Rutgers Student Center
126 College Avenue
New Brunswick, NJ

No RSVP or pre-registration necessary. For more information, please email

Tim, Roma, and Jay

I'm interviewed in the newest episode of the Tim and Roma show. Check it out here. I love them and couldn't wait to do their show the next time I was in San Francisco. Tim is one of my favorite people in the biz and Roma is just hilarious!

Last night I had a great time celebrating the premiere of Project Jay, featuring Jay McCarroll. I couldn't believe how great the cinematography was for a reality show. And seeing the contrast between his midwestern upbringing and his new city life was pretty interesting. Plus he's a funny guy, and you all know I appreciate a sense of humor. My favorite line of the night was when he said "If I was good looking, I'd be dead of AIDS." The way he said it was priceless.

Yale, GAYVN, Michael Lucas' La Dolce Vita casting ...

The full report on Yale will be tomorrow. But for now I'll say that it was really interesting. Can you imagine me, those professors, and a room full of porn haters and (warning, I am making a joke) carpet-muching feminists? Though, keep in mind there are some feminists I love, I call them females. Oh by the way, give me your suggestions. I am casting now for my next big production, Michael Lucas' La Dolce Vita. Who are your favorites and who would you like to see in this film? I can tell you right now, Bruce Beckham, Wilfired Knight and Gus Mattox (plus some other names that I'm keeping secret for now) will be in this film. There are about 10 spots still open.

Hmm, what else is going on ... well, we are all getting ready to go to LA for the GAYVN awards and I'm really looking forward to it. You know I am not big on LA, but I'm sure we'll have a great time.

We've also been settling into our new offices, so there's been a lot on my plate- please forgive me if my blogs haven't been too thought provoking. Though I love all your passionately hateful and loving comments from "Outing". But please take this to heart: please, whether you disagree or wholeheartedly embrace my point of view, don't ever ever stop buying my movies ;)

Also, Thinking XXX is playing on HBO On Demand right now if you haven't checked it out. Chad Hunt and I just loved working with Timothy Greenfeild-Sanders for his book and documentary.

Even Further Behind The Scenes ...

Independent filmmaker Jarrah Gurrie has been working on a documentary about me. Recently Jarrah sent me some stills from his footage. It's really interesting to see pictures of the different moments of my life, ordinary to extraordinary, from a quiet observer's point of view. Attention voyeurs, this one's for you:

Outing

As a gay pornographer, I’m here to remind you that the great philosopher George Santayana said: “Those who cannot remember the past are doomed to repeat it.”

This is on my mind because of much commentary I’ve heard regarding the question of outing.

Truly, my aim in signing John Paulus as an actor was to make hot fucking porno with him. In fact, his first DVD will be on Auditions 8: Scandalous, to be released March 15, also available on www.LucasEntertainment.com tomorrow.

But that aim has gotten all balled up with the question of outing, and as long as we’re on the subject, I want to address it.

Before getting to my main points, I’d like to point out that questions regarding Clay Aiken’s sexual orientation arose long, long before John Paulus came out with his story.

Clay’s relationship with his stylist/dancer John Dahlstrom is what’s called an open secret. A person sarcastically commenting on the Aiken/Paulus matter on one web site wrote: “What!!!!!? Clay Aiken is gay? Let me move out from under this rock.”

To interject some humor into a serious subject, I ask that you consider titles of Aiken’s albums and songs. “Measure of a Man” is one, “Mary Did You Know?” is another. If those don’t have a whiff of the homosexual, then I am a Catholic altar boy.

Adolph Hitler rose to power abetted by American financing even though his evil intentions manifested in his book “Mein Kampf.” Gays were on the Nazi hit list right along with Jews. German Jews and Gays, having long considered themselves loyal Germans, largely practiced denial regarding the threat against them; most paid with their lives.

Why am I mentioning this?

Because it is relevant to the present struggle for gay rights in the United States.

Getting "mainstream" America to accept that homosexuals deserve equal legal rights is crucial to avoiding the continued emotional and physical maiming of millions of innocent gay people.

Beyond the questions of marital rights and privileges there lies, for example, the daily spectacle and disgrace of young people, perceived to be gay, endlessly tormented and harassed in their public schools, with the tormenting and harassment mainly ignored or encouraged by the adults in the schools.

Matthew Shepard’s murder was not an isolated incident, but because of the way his killers left him tied on an outdoor fence with his skull smashed, his case drew much attention.

Federal U.S. and Wyoming state law does not consider killings on the basis of sexual orientation to be hate crimes. After Matthew’s murder, President Clinton tried to push legislation through Congress that would have added sexual orientation to the hate crimes law. Republicans defeated the measure.

The defendants at one point in their trial attempted a “gay panic defense,” which literally allows people to get away with murder. The idea of a “gay panic defense” is that a person sexually propositioned by a homosexual goes temporarily insane with rage and thus may be excused from having committed murder.

There aren’t federal laws guaranteeing us equal rights, but there is one allowing murderers of gay people to be found innocent on the basis of that “gay panic defense.”

The gay panic defense, as turned out, did not work for Matthew’s killers. Yet having allowed it to be used in court, and with the support of gay-haters across America, those killers appeared on 20/20, saying that the murder was not fueled by homophobia but rather by methamphetamine. Please.

Anti-gay Fred Phelps and his supporters protested Mathew’s funeral and the trial of his killers holding placards reading “God Hates Fags” and “Matt Shepard Rots in Hell.” Phelps sought to erect a monument of Matthew Shepard with a bronze plaque saying that Matthew entered hell on the day he died.

Readers; do not make the mistake of thinking the attitude represented by Phelps is a fringe one.

Enemies of gay people are ascendant. The president wants a Constitutional amendment banning our equal rights. The vice president has a lesbian daughter whom he claims to love, yet securing gay rights not only is no priority for him, he actually cooperates in having those rights defeated.

If you think there is no chance that in the United States there could within ten years be a mass round-up and killing of gay people, you are pathetically naïve, and you are not keeping in mind Santayana’s dictum. Look how radically Bush has transformed America in the course of five years and understand that it is not impossible that ten years hence, those radical changes could prove to be the foundation for even greater barbarity.

The so-called Weimar Republic emphasized tolerance and openness yet was ultimately usurped in Germany by the Nazis and their deep-seated, widespread bigotry.

All this and more is why I do not accept that gay people in the public eye have a “right” to keep their sexuality secret. There are times when the moral imperative is to take a stand on an issue; this is one of those times.

Whether Clay Aiken is gay, when asked about the question in a published or broadcast interview, he should at the very least be stating and reaffirming his support for gay rights.

But he does no such thing. Next magazine wanted to interview him, and his publicist told Next that Clay would never ever give an interview to a gay publication.

Any gay person who argues against outing is contributing to our oppression and is digging the grave, as it were, for all of us. I have heard all the arguments against outing. I am persuaded by none of them, and completely and utterly disgusted that gay people would continue making them.

What's really important this Valentine's Day.

Some readers lately have been getting their skirts all twisted up over my professional relationship with John Paulus.

This makes me very, very, very sad, because when your skirts are twisted the wrong way, you can not be properly penetrated.

Look, dudes, this is how my business works: I find a smoldering hot hunk who knows his way around a bedroom. I invest money and time in building his name so he’ll have a following. Then I put him on the front of a DVD box, and watch ‘em sell like hot buns, because they are hot buns. That's what's going on here.

In most businesses, people always have to cover their asses. It so happens that in my line, the idea is to uncover my ass, and to uncover other people’s asses too. When I find a hot ass I can put on a DVD cover, I break out the champagne! Anything scandalous about me I offer to you honestly and openly, unlike people in other lines of work who work very hard to maintain a vanilla facade, like say, your lawyer, investment banker, OBGYN ...

Critics might say “Well, Clay Aiken is just taking advantage of business opportunities, the same way you are.” What is the principle difference? By cultivating a bigoted, right-wing audience, Clay is contributing to the empowerment of a socially repressive force.

Now I must do what I was born to do: Direct hot sex scenes with hot guys. I filmed John Paulus and Wilson Vasquez today and I'm very happy with the results. So this Valentines Day I ask you to think about what's really important: love. And if you love watching sexy guys fuck with exquisite delight, then put your anger and irritation aside for just a moment. Please, open up to the love I've got to give. Tomorrow evening on Valentine's Day, you'll be able to see this great scene at lucasentertainment.com.

John Paulus' First Scene With Lucas Entertainment

When John Paulus contacted me, I had no idea who he was. When John explained that he wanted to film a movie with me, I was going to direct him to casting. I am possibly the only gay man in the world who didn't even know who Clay Aiken is, aside from Lady Bunny's joke. I also do not follow the gossip columns. When he called, I didn't have much time to get into the story, so I told him I would call him back after doing some research. In the meantime I asked him to send me some pictures directly to my email address. It was easy to find information on him, as he is all over the internet. Most of my fellow bloggers were talking about him. Most of the comments humiliated him and made him sound like a gold digger.

I received his pictures. I thought the guy was hot. I called him back and we talked for about 2 hours. Look, I have been in show-business for a few years now, and I think I can trust my instincts. The guy seemed honest and sincere. He was also scared, confused, and not very articulate. At the same time, he was not some kind of stupid bimbo. He told me about the troubles he having: death threats, eviction, and losing his job. He told me he was coming to New York the next night to appear on the Howard Stern Show. I asked him to change the ticket for an earlier flight and come straight to my office.

The first thing I did was a one hour long interview with him, which we recorded for www.LucasEntertainment.com. The interview was revealing, and this part will be available for Lucas Entertainment members only, starting later today.

I read lots of blogs and articles, and I want to address the most frequent comments, which boil down to this:
Did I sign him as an exclusive model to make money?
Did I want to capitalize on his 15 minutes of fame?

The answer to both is Yes.
This should not come as a surprise. You see, I am in the business of show-business. I am always looking for sexually active, good looking men, who will make money for Lucas Entertainment and themselves. Once I find them, I start to promote them heavily. So when I found this good looking guy who already had a story and buzz around him, I made sure to sign him, and I signed him immediately. If that was not my intention, then I would not have such a successful company. That's just the nature of this business. It's called publicity and that's what fuels entertainment and media.

Did John expose Clay to make money? Is he a greedy sleazebag?
The answer to this is No.
You can judge for yourself from his interview. The important thing here is that John was offered lots of money from tabloids and he refused it. Money never exchanged hands. (Feel free to verify this with the Enquirer and other magazines) I don't think him not taking the money was the right choice considering that the guy is broke and lost his job. He is a man who wants to earn money by working, and that is why he contacted me. The fact that he never received money from the magazines is something that bloggers overlook.

John always wanted to do porn. From his interview, you will learn that he was stripping in clubs years ago and enjoyed it very much. He was offered to be in movies before, but could never accept, because first he was in the army, and then he had a real estate job in one of the most conservative parts of the country. Now that he's lost everything, he decided it was time to pursue his dream. What did he have to lose? Yesterday we filmed the scene with John Paulus. We filmed one solo scene, and a one on one with John and myself.

There was a lot of talk in the media about re-enacting his scene as it happened with Clay Aiken. I am not going to do such a cheesy and pathetic thing. What's to re-enact? The barebacking experience that left John so upset, he wasn't even aroused? That's not the kind of film that Lucas Entertainment would produce. I really don't think that a Clay Aiken lookalike would excite anyone.

All information for his interview and sex scene will be announced at www.LucasEntertainment.com today.

Michael's Mailbox: Reactions Surrounding John Paulus

MLucasJPaulus.jpg
We just came from the Howard Stern Show. John was nervous but he did well. Thank you, Howard, for your understanding and your help.

The Howard Stern Show was receiving phone calls from straight men calling John filthy and horrible because he is gay, and another called saying that a disgusting homo could never be such a high rank in the army. John was quizzed by the caller as to whether he was ever really a green beret. After John answered all of his questions accurately, Howard and John made room for jokes.

Beyond the show, I'd like to respond to some angry feedback that John is wrong for "outing" Clay.

John did not out Clay Aiken for the sake of outing him. Howard asked the same question many of you want answered:
Is it ever justified to out someone?

Here's my answer: I think people who mind their own business should be left alone and it's up to them to decide to come out to their families, coworkers, etc. But people who develop a public persona and are hypocrites should be outed. It is one thing to be a housewife who doesn't want to have her private life scrutinized. Celebrities are very different. People are entitled to privacy, but when someone tries to paint a picture that is the opposite of who they are, they deserve to be exposed. I respect Anderson Cooper's stance. He neither confirms nor denies. He has been out in public and doesn't make anything of his orientation. He doesn't try to convince people that he is some kind of saintly Christian straight guy.

Clay uses gay public websites to pick up boys and *allegedly* have unprotected sex with them. Yet if his fanbase had their way, those websites would already be closed down. He is simply a public hypocrite and public hypocrites do not have the right or respect of privacy. Clay Aiken could make a difference by coming out to his largely homophobic Christian fundamentalist fanbase, and maybe change their minds and make the world a better place. But instead he lies to us, having us buy into his innocent persona when he's preying on the gay community for his own pleasure, but not owning up to his homosexuality, which could make a difference. If you choose to stay in the closet, fine. But don't publicly identify with people who are against gay culture, and don't exploit the freedoms that gay people have, such as gay dating websites.

Clay is using gay public space in order to pick up boys. These sites are there as a result of an ongoing fight for gay rights. If it were up to many homophobic people, these kinds of websites would all be shut down. And as we all know there are many people who wish we were all still in the closet.

If you use gay achievements which resulted from years and years of the gay liberation movement, then don't be just a user. Make a difference.

Do I care about Clay's career? No, there are people who lost not only their career, but their life. For one reason: because they are gay.

John is on our side. Clay Aiken's fans are not. It's a far worse thing if we betray him than to betray poor Clay Aiken.

Michael Lucas to Accompany Clay Aiken Ex-Lover, John Paulus, to Howard Stern Show

February 8, 2006
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Michael Lucas to Accompany Clay Aiken's Alleged Ex-Lover, John Paulus, to Howard Stern Show

New York, NY (February 8) — On Thursday February 9, 2006, at 8:30 AM on Sirius Satellite Radio, Michael Lucas will accompany John Paulus to the Howard Stern Show. Paulus recently made headlines for his alleged encounter with Clay Aiken.

Lucas states, "John contacted me and talked about the problems and abuse he received in from 'Claymates' and of the strong presence of the Christian Coalition in his home state of North Carolina. He impressed me as a sweet, honest guy. I'm sure people will see that about him. For now, John is staying in New York, away from the troubles he faced as an out gay man in the South. Tomorrow I will accompany John to the Howard Stern Show."

The most important topic for adult film star and director Michael Lucas is John's claim that Clay Aiken allegedly pressured him not to use a condom during sex. "I urge the community to support Mr. Paulus as he joins me in the fight against unsafe, bareback sex." Lucas continued.

Upon arriving in New York today, John Paulus took solace in the progress he is making with Michael Lucas. After being kicked out of his North Carolina apartment and being fired from his job, Paulus appreciates the opportunity to join Lucas as he faces the public. Paulus said, "The whole experience with Clay was just horrible. I felt like such a piece of meat ... that he was exploiting his celebrity status to use me for sex. He didn't even care after I asked three times for us to use condoms. It feels great to put the truth out there, but at the same time I feel ashamed that I allowed myself to be talked into something so harmful as bareback sex ... I was star struck. I pray that nobody makes the same kind of mistake I did."

John Paulus states that he joined the Army after high school, and after serving as an Airborne Ranger, John became a Green Beret in the Special Forces where he graduated in the top of his class. After his discharge from the Army, and the resulting furor from the Enquirer story of his alleged encounter with Clay Aiken, he was fired from his job as a Real Estate Agent. John Paulus has a new job as a Lucas Entertainment exclusive and will begin filming this February.

Muslims and their Cartoons

Cartoon Protests turn deadly.
See the protested Muhammad Cartoons here.

Islamic fascism should concern us firstly as human beings and secondly as gay people because in no Muslim-dominated country are homosexuals protected, by law, against violence. Indeed, in many Muslim countries, simply coming out is punishable by death.

Recent violent Muslim hysteria over cartoons of Mohammed drawn in Denmark shows yet again that Western-style democracies cannot profitably engage in diplomacy with Muslim nations.

Ironically, the Danish paper that sponsored the cartoons did so because it saw that journalists were censoring themselves regarding Muslim issues.

The democratic world has been so cowed by Muslims that it dare not make cartoons of their alleged prophet. What’s wrong with this picture?

There is something that needs to be clearly stated: Muslims who try to resolve their differences with the outside world through violence have a pathological adherence to their religion. I repeat the word so it’s understood: pathological.

That kind of blind pathological adherence to Islam most definitely does not deserve respect. It deserves to be identified and treated as the sickness it is.

To the extent that there are Muslims who adapt their religious beliefs to the modern world and aim for peaceful co-existence with other peoples, they have their voices drowned out and are rendered impotent as a political force by their very numerous pathological Muslim brethren.

Like a good psychiatrist, I say “I care.” The security of democratic countries is not my only concern. My feel for humanity makes me profoundly disturbed that this communal Muslim pathology rapes the promise of so many Muslim lives.

Brainwashing children to believe that every Christian and every Jew is a mortal enemy is beneath contempt, yet exactly that happens on a massive scale throughout the Muslim world. What about that deserves any respect? Religious leaders motivating suicide bombers to carry out attacks with promises of 72 virgins greeting them in heaven is, to reiterate, pathological.

It should not go unnoted that I express concern for these people as human beings. I invite readers to refer me to contemporary Muslim writers who express a like concern for non-Muslim peoples.

There is no sane excuse for the recent Muslim violence in reaction to the Danish cartoons. European-looking people have been physically attacked in the streets of both European and Middle-Eastern countries, though the victims had nothing to do with the drawing of the cartoons. Danish and other European embassies in Syria and Lebanon have been attacked and burned by mobs angry over a cartoon. A cartoon! The leader of Hamas declared that nothing less than seeing the cartoonist decapitated will satisfy him. If this behavior is not pathological, what is?

Another irony is that while European societies allow pathological Muslims to demonstrate in public, those Muslims’ home countries do not allow Europeans to demonstrate at all for any reason in their territories.

The pathological Muslims demand respect but don’t want to demonstrate respect to others. Satirical drawings of Jews, complete with grotesque, hooked noses and evil glints in beady eyes appear constantly in the Muslim press. Arab television airs dramatic series in which Jewish characters are portrayed eating babies, and there is no Arab protest against it.

So because their alleged prophet is mildly satirized in a drawing, they have the right to violently attack fellow human beings, and destroy the embassies that facilitate their trade with European countries?

The pathological Muslims have no idea what democracy is, though there are abundant examples from which they might learn. As much as I abhor religious fanatics in the U.S. for blurring the separation of church and state, as much as I detest them for agitating against gay rights, they are not violent people.

Bush’s Iraq war, by the way, has nothing to do with the anti-cartoon violence of recent days. For many reasons, I am against Bush’s war. Yet his vision for Iraq is actually to establish a country that respects freedom of religion. Under Saddam, the country was nominally secular but Sunni Muslims had the upper hand over Shiite Muslims, whom they abused with wanton abandon. At present, in their attempts to form a single governing body, Iraqi Sunnis and Shiites are mixing like oil and water but bickering like cats and dogs. If the pathological Muslims woke up one day to find there were no more Jews and Christians left in the world, just like the Iraqis, they would commence to rip each other to shreds.

The depth of this problem with pathological Muslim communities in Europe has not been fully and widely-enough articulated. Theo van Gogh made a documentary of the Muslim oppression of women and was then killed in the streets of Amsterdam by a pathological Muslim, shot eight times with his throat slit. That murder was not a freak aberration; it was one among uncountable symptoms of the plague of pathological Muslims in Europe. The Dutch daily De Telegraaf got it exactly right when it said “Afraid of being called racist, we have been so tolerant with regard to these religious fascists that they have been allowed to merrily undermine the roots of our freedom.”

Efforts to democratize Muslim countries are doomed to fail. If the pathological Muslims were susceptible of reason, they would look at the cartoon of Mohammad with a bomb atop his turban and say “Hmm. We have a PR problem. We better get all Muslims to stop violent attacks.”

What does it say about these deranged people that instead of reaching such a conclusion, they attack innocents in the streets, bring violence against their own people, and burn down embassies?

Out and About Last Night in the City

I had a long evening about town last night. Fashion week started with some great parties. First, my friend Jason joined me at the MAC Cosmetics party which was fierce. I had fun meeting new people and chatting with old friends. The theme was Geisha/Chinese New Year, and Pamela Anderson was such a doll.

I must say that Donald Gaynor again did an amazing job with this party. I had gone 2 years ago and it got much better.

Same with Mao PR's party, where we stopped later that night. It was so much fun. Lady Bunny was hilarious as usual. Mauricio from Mao sure knows how to throw an amazing party. He also puts out a great magazine. I ran into Michael Musto just as he was getting on his bicycle. He showed me a page of highlights in Mao magazine with quotes from him. It was sweet as he pointed out where he gave me a shout out. How nice of him to mention me in this fashionable way! He is a great friend, I adore him, even though he made fun of me quite a few times, and you know how vain I can be ...

I also ran into Alex Poole, formerly my wonderful flash production manager. He was with Lucas Entertainment for the longest time, and after not being touch for so long, I realized I missed him. He looked just great and seemed happy with his cute new boyfriend. For me it was a highlight of the evening.

We then went to the party called Miss Sixties at Capital downtown, with fellow blogger from Queerty.com, Bradford. He was absolutely hilarious. I had so much fun with him and his half retarded friend Randy Kaufman, who is not only a very fun guy, but also a very talented Interior Designer. He promised to design a set for the upcoming Michael Lucas' La Dolce Vita.

I'm sure there was a lot more fun to be had, but the party had to end no matter how much I'd like to be an all night socialite. I like money so much I have to get to bed by at least 1am. After all, I have a business to run in the morning!

Hidden Treasure

When packing up my office, I happened upon Fantastic Man magazine, something I really enjoy and few people know about. Fantastic Man is the name of a particularly interesting bi-annual “Gentleman’s Style Journal.” It’s the brainchild of two of Dutch guys Gert Jonkers and Jop Van Bennekom. These are the very same Dutch guys behind BUTT, a magazine that blends culture with porn, so naturally I dig it. They speak to questions of style in all aspects of a man’s life. Regarding fashion, they don’t run with the herd; they seek out what is smartest for the individual and explain why it is.

The whole thing has a European sensibility but with an internationalist flair that is ideal for our era. The magazine is sort of an insider’s insider look at the fashion and style scene. Subjects are chosen more for their refinement and uniqueness than for their mass appeal. One article, for example, analyzes the distinctve and personal looks of Oscar Wilde, Brian Ferry, and Magnum P.I. A lot of the photography is by Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin whose work is most intriguing.

Anyhow, there's really nothing like it out there. It caters to the very same stylish gay sensibility I aspire to. So that's my tip of the week.

Popping The Question

Should an HIV positive man reveal his serostatus to all potential sexual partners?

Declaring as positive certainly is admirable.

Yet I feel that for people to ask new acquaintances their serostatus is tacky and pointless.

We all know how the human immunodeficiency virus is transmitted, right?

It is not transmitted through kissing. There is considerable, almost overwhelming evidence that it is not transmitted through oral sex either. Unprotected anal sex is what spreads HIV; the bottom is at greater risk than the top but the top is most definitely at risk.

The moral of the mess is that we should always use condoms when engaging in intercourse.

And I ask; what in the world changes when a positive person announces as positive to a new acquaintance? They maybe are going to decide to not use condoms? I’ve actually heard of sickos known as “bug-chasers” who purposely try to catch HIV. In that case, such a person should immediately enter psychotherapy.

What it comes down to is this: I will never ask a prospective sex partner his sero-status. When having intercourse, we are using condoms no matter what. I repeat: we are using condoms. So what does it matter to me if the person is positive or negative? As I see it, I could in any case be dealing with somebody who is positive but doesn’t realize that he is.

I’ll add that I think there is an attitude problem towards this question in the gay community. Long-term monogamous relationships are one matter. But having multiple fuck-buddies, or regular recreational sex is another. In one-off encounters, particularly, I don’t think either partner should be asking the other about his HIV status. Why? Because whether one or both are positive or negative, they absolutely must use condoms when having coitus, no ifs, ands, or butts.

Sensitivity towards positive people is paramount. It makes no sense for guys to go running around bathhouses having sex left and right without knowing if their partners are positive, and then freaking out in a situation where they know for sure that somebody is poz. I think negative people, when reacting to positive ones, should always think how they would feel if they were positive.

So with a salute to all those poz people who won’t have sex without revealing their status, from a negative guy who never asks whether somebody is positive or negative, I’ll sign off reminding you all to always, always, unconditionally use rubbers when a penis meets an anal aperture.

And on that note, I'd like to share this lovely photo of our latest discovery, Irish stud Jimmy. If you like male genitals, you'll love Jimmy's Jimmy! Check him out in his new video click here. More pics and goodies to come.
